Twelve years ago Ruud Tieman bought Monte dos Covões do Vale de Madeira where until mid-2008 he shared this beautiful valley with his lady-love Alma along with his loyal dog Kelly.
During that time the ruin that was present was transformed into a new home and the land was being taken care of and gradually upgraded to a valley with a wide variety of shrubs and trees among which many fruit trees.
He also created different individual spots to enable one to enjoy the serenity of the place.
The power of Vale de Madeira lies in the valley itself due to the isolated location deep in the forest where the daily hum of modern life is not heard and where air pollution as well as electronic radiation from transmitter posts are absent which made it possible for Vale de Madeira to create her own meditative power field. It feels like being embraced by Mother Earth and a feeling of healing will be sensed immediately. In other words: by the isolated location there is little disturbance in the energy of nature which created a palpable force field.
In the nightly dark one senses the sublimity of the cosmos while gazing at the millions of stars which are so present and that can been seen clearly by the lack of any form of light pollution.
Since 2008 Ruud makes use of volunteers from different mondial web sites to help him to maintain the land. Those volunteers work five days a week for six hours a day in exchange of shelter and nutrition. Volunteers come from all over the world: South-America, USA, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, Russia and from many European countries. Even from Portugal itself.
All those people have helped to make Vale de Madeira the place it is today: a unique place that invites you to be your own natural and creative person far away from the daily crowd.

Ruud walked his path of life from owner of the valley to his authentic self as Guardian of the Valley. His beloved dog Kelly enjoyed more than eleven beautiful years, from birth to death, in his so trusted land.
